01 / THE STORY
BOOK I
No one draws
a road alone.
Deep beneath Menzoberranzan, Zaelyra Xil’Nrae learns to read the passages her House would rather keep secret. An old map, the name of a fugitive, and unexpected encounters lead her far beyond the city.
As danger reaches the refuges, her question changes: how can she leave without exposing those who remain to their pursuers?

03 / AN EXCERPT
Narbondel lit up before Zaelyra had finished lacing her boot.
Light ran along the pillar, thin at first and then bright, like a stream of silver poured through the heart of the stone. It reached the high terraces of Menzoberranzan and glimmered in the obsidian windows. Below, the bridges emerged from shadow. The Bazaar's lanterns went out one by one; no one would waste a flame when the city itself told the time.
